UK duo Semiconductor makes raw, unprocessed science data into beautiful, thought-provoking audiovisual works.

Semiconductor, consisting of sound and video artists Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt, work closely with scientists and brand new technologies of recording and registering the transmutations and forming of the earth. In their film ‘Where Shapes Come From’, they follow scientists reflecting on the way atoms form matter. In ‘Earthworks’, they record and recreate the way landscape is changed by man.

Jarman and Gerhardt have been working together for nearly twenty years. They have received many awards, commissions and prestigious fellowships including the Collide @ CERN Ars Electronica Award 2015, Jerwood Open Forest 2015 and Samsung Art + Prize 2012. Recently their work has been shown at the Mori Art Museum, (Tokyo), ZKM (Karlsruhe), Museum Haus Konstruktiv (Zurich) and ArtScience Museum, Singapore. In 2016 they were awarded the SónarPLANTA commission.
